A movie that features inspiring fashion, design and style can create a tornado of creativity on the other side of one viewing. When I sit down and watch any of the classics, whether it’s Annie Hall or The Devil Wears Prada, I come away with an instant desire to dive head first into my closet and recreate every other look featured on screen. A movie can change everything and when it comes to style inspiration, we are spoilt for choice. Hollywood has provided a plethora of motivating and fascinating films for any lover of fashion and costume design. So, what better time to do a list than when we are all stuck inside looking for inspiration on our screens daily?
Last month I created 30 Days of Christmas to get you in the festive mood. This month, and every month moving forward, I’ll aim to give you a list of inspiring films in a range of genres to keep you entertained through this rather uncertain year. We’re kicking off with fashion, in both fictional and documentary form, because these are the films I switch on first when I need a good kick in the rear during a creative rut. There are 34 here, allowing for the idea that not all films are available in all countries. There’s a trailer for each and every one, and there are tons of motivating moments available in those trailers alone, if you’re running short for time.
Enjoy and get ready for taking notes on outfit ideas for the future!
