FFG Travels: Ultima Crans Montana, Switzerland

Nestled in the mountains of Switzerland, just a few hours from Geneva, there sits a pair of chalets, discretely tucked in behind a nondescript gate and partially hidden by rather strategically placed woodlands. What you’ll find at the top of the drive is anything but nondescript, however. Two large chalets, designed in traditional alpine style, await your arrival. From the outside it’s easy to think you’ve pulled up into an old school Swiss resort, something out of a storybook featuring a chic Hansel and Gretel. After the first step indoors, however, you realise this is something more suited and ski booted for a Lady Gaga or a Jay-Z style Switzerland experience. Ultima Crans Montana, a member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Residences collection, is the height of plush contemporary luxury.

The two completely private chalets, totalling 3,850 square meters in space, are filled with soft furnishings, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes, and decorated top to toe with contemporary art that’s not only on display but also available to purchase on the spot. The property sleeps 26, across both chalets, although it is possible to rent each chalet separately if you have a smaller group to accommodate. Now, twenty size people might feel like a lot to house together and entertain in the same place, but never fear as this is the type of entertaining this chalet was purpose built for.

While the main living room of Ultima Crans Montana can easily seat your entire group, if you all want to gather around the fire with hot chocolates (or something a little stronger perhaps) in hand, there are plenty of other areas for your group to disperse to while in residence. The spa happens to be my personal favourite. At 1,000 square meters, you could move in here for the entirety of your stay and never tire of the endless amenities. From the hammam to the heated pool, this is an experience in itself. And I must declare that to visit the Ultimata Crans Montana and not take in a sunset from the outdoor pool would be a great misstep indeed. It’s magical. There’s no other word for it. Then again, a massage in residence is just as memorable. The treatment rooms resemble something out of a five star hotel, as do the sauna and steam room, gym and lounge space.

If the spa isn’t your thing, there’s also a cigar room, billiards room, cinema, cinema bar, sitting rooms a plenty and an outdoor jacuzzi overlooking mountains ahead. You could stay here with twenty six people and never see another soul if you wanted to make that happen, not that anyone would! This is place to come with family and friends for complete relaxation and next level spoiling. Sit back as the chefs prepare your meals in the professional kitchen and serve at a table big enough for all, indoors or out. Or challenge the cocktail master to whip up a concoction like nothing you’ve ever tried before. Every single member of the team at Ultima Crans Montana is present to make your experience one you’ll cherish forever. The staff here are always looking to go above and beyond the call of duty, from setting you up for a day of skiing you’ll never forget (complete with ski instructors exclusive to the chalets) to setting up roaring fires by the lake, complete with sheepskin throws over comfy chairs and endless platters of food.

It’s easy to quickly feel as if the rest of the world doesn’t exist, while in residence here. Surely this is how life should be every single day of the year. It is a holiday that is truly unique and absolutely indulgent. Alongside such an experience comes a hefty price tag. Can you put a price on paradise, however? I think not. And their list of clientele in just the past few months of opening showcases just how desirable this slice of secluded heaven is.
