There’s no point beating around the bush here. This duffle coat was probably my fastest purchase ever. I couldn’t get my credit card out quickly enough and for about ten seconds I had a fear of it selling out before I could click on “complete purchase.” Truth be told, it had only hit the site ten minutes before I purchased it, but my heart was still going pitter patter as I got my confirmation of shipping. The little red duffle would finally be mine. I had visions of Ali MacGraw “Love Story” style snow ball fights, long walks down wintry beaches and steep climbs up rolling British hills. It’s no coincidence my coat soul mate is the colour of love… too far? Ok, let’s take it down a notch.
First of all, I’m not the only person in history that has had an obsession with this wardrobe classic. Favoured by Brigitte Bardot, David Bowie, Alexa Chung, and, perhaps most famously, Paddington Bear, the duffle coat is a winter staple for wardrobes the world over. This is a coat that is as versatile as it is cozy and comfortable. And here’s your random fact of the day…. did you know the duffle coat is named after the duffle bag, as they were originally made from the same material? Something for your next pub quiz.
To me, this red duffle screams premium, New England, preppy and potential. Why potential? Well, I’m already styling it 1,001 ways to Sunday and autumn’s only just started. But, I wanted to share our first outing together, at the beautiful Ocean House in Rhode Island. More to come on that later. Watch this space!
