FFG Travels: Four Seasons, Prague

Four Seasons Prague

Over the years, I feel as if I have deposited a piece of my heart in so many countries, along so many cobblestone streets and in one too many charming cafes. Last month, I’m pretty sure I left my whole heart behind, for the first time, in visiting Prague. This is a city that oozes charm and beauty. From the vintage convertible touring cars with sheepskin lined seats (forget ugly stop-n-see buses) to the swans that decorate the river that runs through the heart of the city, this is a destination that is not only rich in history but also overflowing with romance. And if we’re being honest, there’s only really one place to stay when visiting such an overwhelmingly beautiful destination – the Four Seasons Prague

A bit of a back story here on the hotel. The Four Seasons Prague is actually made up of three Old Town buildings, from three different historic time periods. One contemporary design building unites a classical, renaissance and 18th-century baroque building. While this may sound completely confusing, it is anything but. In fact, it’s a beautiful testament to a city that has changed so greatly over the years, following architectural trends and transforming a landscape into something that, today, is quite spectacular.

I suppose it’s important to first say that the Four Seasons Prague is everything you would expect from the Four Seasons brand. The service is unparalleled. The food is epic. The rooms are spacious and every need a traveler can have is thought of before you can remember you need anything at all! But, that’s just the beginning. One thing I have always appreciated most about the Four Seasons properties is their understanding that they are a place to lay your head at the end of a day of exploration. The properties exist in cities around the world that are begging for discovery and the hotel is all too happy to get you out and about to explore their surroundings, while also giving you the height of luxury upon your return to your room. Prague was just that and more. The Four Seasons Prague arranged for us to have, what can only be described as VIP treatment. They have, on call, one of the city’s best tour guides, who managed to showcase the best the city has to offer, with no velvet ropes standing in front of us along the way. Our tours were comprehensive, seamless and full of photo opportunities, which you know I loved.

We walked for hours, each day, around the city, and I still felt as if we could have spent another week exploring without ever getting bored. But, we needed to walk to burn off our calorific mealtimes. We dined in famous glass workshops, we ate traditional Prague food in breweries and we took in the Four Seasons Prague brunch, which I’m pretty sure is responsible for the jeans being a little tighter this month. All fueled us in our journey across the city. At night, we returned to our rooms, where the curtains had been drawn, sweets were left on the bed, and bath salts were placed by the tub for that extra ounce of relaxation. The rooms themselves were stunning, to say the least. While spacious and full of modern luxuries, I truly felt as if I had stepped back in time with the classical feel of the decor. Every night I fell asleep feeling as if I had stepped back in time and awoke to room service, the next morning, so delicious I was pretty sure I wanted to stay there forever.

As I write this, Prague will be gearing up for their Christmas rush. The most beautiful markets in Europe will pop up in this city centre and the holiday cheer will echo through the squares as tourists come from all over the world to celebrate this time of year. The multiple Christmas trees will be lit at the Four Seasons Prague, and guests will find themselves ordering hot chocolates to their suites after cold days exploring the castle or famous shopping streets. Just writing this I want to get on a plane and return instantly.

This is all more or less to say that Prague needs to be on your list of places to visit in 2017. And, if I’m being honest, I really do believe that you should go big for luxury on this one. Four Seasons will spoil you beyond belief in your tour of the city, complete with a boat tour of the city to boot. It’s ideal for special weekends away (proposals maybe?) and honeymoons abroad. Or, why not just spoil yourself with a historic moment out of town? Any way you choose to frame it, this is the ultimate present in celebration of a historic gem!
