Columbia Road Flower Market: A Morning in Pictures

As I’m in transit to the USA for Christmas, I thought I’d take a step back in time and share some pictures from a recent visit to Columbia Road Flower Market in East London. The flower market these days is becoming less and less a place to actually buy flowers and more of a place for tourists to visit to take pictures and capture the amazing atmosphere. This is both frustrating and fantastic, to see a place long loved that is finally appreciated by the masses. But, my goodness does it make it difficult to pick up your flowers. This time around I thought I’d join in the tourist fun and drag my camera along to capture the amazing blooms. A bunch here, a plant there and a snap on the side. It didn’t make for the easiest of operations, but it was just as magical as ever. If you come to London and don’t visit Columbia Road Flower Market, you are missing out on quite a scene. Be prepared for a little madness. There are people shouting everywhere and the crowds can be quite difficult to navigate. However, your patience will pay off. DO buy flowers, however. Support Columbia Road Flower Market so that it stays alive!

Here’s a snapshot of my day at Columbia Road Flower Market from arrival to recovery coffee after an afternoon of exploration.
