A five star staycation in Knightsbridge

The Berkeley London

Whenever I think of Knightsbridge, I don’t get a very relaxed vibe. I think of the hustle and bustle of London, mainly meaning the mega luxury stores, the loud sports cars and the oodles of tourists that are constantly pouring in to explore the whole atmosphere this neighbourhood provides. It’s a great place to shop, but not exactly a location I’d pinpoint as a place to escape to.

That all being said…

Earlier this week I was invited for a night at The Berkeley in Knightsbridge. It’s a five star hotel that deserves every last twinkler it’s been awarded. I did have my reservations – how could I find solace in a hotel that’s in the thick of everything? But as soon as I stepped into my room, I felt as if the world below had fallen away. I stepped out onto my balcony, after room service delivered a skinny latte, and looked down upon the world that is Knightsbridge and found a great peace in looking down at the busy streets. I had literally risen above it all. Aw. Bliss.

Once the balcony door was closed, I was left with silence and my thoughts- which can be deafening for most, but for me it was a first for sometime to have such peace and quiet to enjoy. But, I wasn’t left with my thoughts only. The Berkeley had also left a little surprise in my room in the form of a fashion trunk. This trunk makes the rounds in the hotel and is filled with goodies that far exceed what you find in your average mini bar. As I pulled the leather tab on each drawer, I discovered vintage Chanel, YSL, Dior, Givenchy and more. All items were made available for me to borrow during my stay, or purchase should I feel they can’t be left behind. I found myself playing dress up, just as I used to with my grandmother’s trunk as a child. I took way too many selfies and imagined way too many scenarios that would require a grand chapeaux or a fur wrap.

In short, The Berkeley proved itself to be the perfect staycation and the ideal location to get away from the craziness of this city we all call home. It’s so amazing to think that a building in the heart of the action could offer such a serene atmosphere. And I haven’t even told you about the pool. Hey, I have to leave something to talk about later…
