Playing awkward with timeless classics: Issa London, Start London and Saint Laurent finishing touches

Emily Johnston

I couldn’t resist making that top shot the focus for this piece. The fabulous photographer Terence Webb and I were having way too much fun trying to emulate the awkward poses found in magazines. With these slouchy Issa London trousers, I just couldn’t help but slouch and bend like a wannabe stick insect. They are trousers that make your legs go on for days and so I tried to channel my inner Gisele. Epic fail, ha!

In all seriousness, I am obsessed with all things Issa London at the moment. These trousers are my holiday go-to and I wish I had bought them in all the colours available. They slouch, sway and hang in all the right ways to flatter and chill with perfection.

Now what I’d really like to shout about is the white shirt I’m wearing. For those of you not familiar with Start London, get on it immediately. This is one of my favourite boutiques in London (possibly because it’s owned by one of my favourite women in the city – Brix Smith Start).

Start also has a men’s division, which has been responsible for dressing more than one talented Brit on the red carpet in the past few years. They’ve recently lent their tailoring talents to women and have created a range of shirts specifically for the lady looking for a men’s shirt that flatters a feminine figure. Score one for Start. The shirts are called Mr. Start for Woman and I’m working the boxy cut in the frame below. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately with high waisted skirts. It sits just above the waist and allows a lovely flare and flatter moment in that area when worn correctly. I’m pretty much thinking every woman should own a shirt from this collection. They are the best quality I’ve seen in ages and at prices that aren’t entirely crazy. How often does that happen these days with designer goods?
