London Fashion Week: DAKS Autumn Winter 2014

DAKS is celebrating 120 years this season and to kick off the celebration they opened the show with Paul Weller and daughter Leah singing “You do something to me,” in a video broadcast on large screens over the catwalk. The lights then went down and when they came up again, the first look from the DAKS autumn winter 2014 collection was before us.

Creative Director Filippo Scuffi really pulled out all the stops for the new season. It’s clear that looking back 120 years, Scuffi choose to celebrate this milestone with modern twists on timeless classics – whether that be timeless shapes, textures or cuts. Of course no DAKS collection is complete without the legendary house check, which we saw everywhere from furry guard hats to sequined tops.

Now we all know DAKS is known for its knitwear. Well, Scuffi decided to create the ultimate knitwear statement for the season in the form of a final runway dress that must have weighed more than the model wearing it. As she slowly made her way down the catwalk, this dress had everyone reaching for their mobile phones. This is what they call an “epic moment” in the industry.
