A few days ago Kanye West presented a collection in Paris. No, the rap star is not reviving his own named brand. Rather, he’s at it again with A.P.C. in designing his second collection with the label. Although Kanye shared six different looks with a small audience of press, it seems the people in attendance were more taken with his rather extended speech that accompanied the presentation, rather than the actual pieces put forward, which, as you can see from the tweet above, seemed to be met with mixed reviews. Forbes was kind enough to transcribe the entire Kanye presentation speech and we thought we’d save you the time of reading it word for word by providing the highlights. So, here we go… quotable quotes from Kanye’s latest fashion adventure-
“Every factory I go to, every time I sit down and talk about it, it’s like whether I’m talking about clothes from the hip-hop side of things or talking about clothes with someone that is in the fashion industry to not have a prejudice against the U-shaped curve of success in your field.”
“It’s like if you had a housekeeper, and she was the best housekeeper in the whole world, and she said she had the idea to start being a florist. You would pay her three times as much to not follow her dream of being a florist. And what people don’t realize is actually my music is better when I’m allowed to eat my food and drink at the same time. I can walk places quicker when I’m allowed to use my right leg and my left leg.”
“Sometimes when you’re in a box you have to punch your way out of the box. You can’t always do it surgically. Everyone was giving me the best advice on how to surgically punch my way out of the box of being boxed into one form of creation. Which if you go to my show, it’s 30 forms of creation at a show.”
Confused? Yeah, so are we. Did we miss something here? What’s going on with the florist and why are you punching your way out of a box? Ok, Kanye, we’re only kidding. We sort of get what you are trying to say. But just a quick tip – sometimes getting straight to the point is the best policy. Talking in circles just makes all of our heads hurt. You don’t need to prove you are smart or inspired by certain things. Just stand up there and say, “Hey, this is what I had in mind for a collection. I like it because of X and I think Y will wear it. I hope you enjoy.” End of.
