Fashion Football Helmets for Super Bowl? This you have to see…

Not since Vogue’s commissioning of designer tennis balls for the US Open have we been so excited about fashion designing for sports. Only, these are a bit more substantial than tennis balls. This year the CFDA has asked their designers to create an “haute couture” football helmet. Everyone from Dennis Basso (mohawk design seen above) to Nicole Miller (floral and striped version seen above), got in on the action, working in conjunction with Bloomingdale’s and the NFL. Each of the 48 helmets are one-of-a-kind and are all created in honour of Super Bowl fever currently gripping America.

Speaking of Bloomingdale’s, one of our favourite helmets was actually from their very own creative team. How do you like this for New York State of mind?

If you live in New York, look out for the helmets in the windows of Bloomingdale’s on 59th. And if you are hell bent on owning one for your very own display case, we have good news for you. These helmets are all up for auction, in a sale that will run through February 4th. The starting price on each helmet is $248 and all net proceeds will go to support the NFL Foundation.

Will you be bidding for a part of football history?

See you at the Super Bowl! {WWD}
