Fashion Week for me has always meant stress. When I say stress, I mean I turn into a devil woman. Mr. FFG actually leaves the country now because of how terrible I get during these five days of LFW. From waking up at 7am to be ready for a 9am show, to attending catwalk presentations through until 11pm and finally finishing the write-ups by 3:30am (roughly), it’s a week that requires a great deal of stamina. For the past four years, eight seasons to be exact, I’ve worked my way through fashion week by grabbing cabs and jumping on fashion buses when possible. This season, however, that all changed. Mercedes-Benz asked to work with Fashion Foie Gras and offered up a beautiful brand new 2013 E-Class for the week to take me anywhere I needed to go, from catwalks to Claridge’s.
To say that working with Mercedes-Benz changed the way in which this fashion week flowed would be a great understatement. And for that, I do have to say a very big public thank you to the company. I was most impressed not only by the beautiful car (that was fully loaded with DVD player and all), but also by the wonderful driver. Every morning Andy, my driver for the week, would pre-drive the routes for the day before picking me up, just to make sure there were no surprises in store for us during the day. Never before have I seen a man take getting somewhere on time so seriously. He was also like having a fashion week fairy-godfather for the week, making sure I was well fed and always fully loaded with coffee when needed. Truly, I was spoiled from start to finish, and for that I have to say thank you to Andy for great conversation while also managing to get me from point A to B with plenty of time to spare.
Funnily enough, working with Mercedes was actually a full life-circle for me. My very first car, when I was 16 and living in the USA, was actually an old Mercedes-Benz. When I say old, I mean old. I think it had 250,000 miles on it when I inherited the vehicle. It was a beautiful big ole tank and I’m pretty sure my father would have trusted no other vehicle to protect his daughter, keeping in mind I was more or less the worst driver on the roads at that time. Needless to say, my Mercedes was nothing at all like the luxurious and modern model I used as transport last week.
Thank you, Mercedes, for allowing us to partner together for London Fashion Week spring summer 2014. Hopefully, see you again next season!
