Oscar de la Renta’s autumn winter 2013 show was full of surprises

This season I’m calling Oscar de la Renta’s autumn winter 2013 collection “dishevelled decadence.” Maybe it was the hair or the styling, but something about this collection made me feel as if Oscar de la Renta will begin outfitting rock stars. Does that make any sense at all?

The tight skinny trousers, mixed with capes and chunky necklaces made me feel as if I was watching what would happen to Little Red Riding Hood  if she teamed up with Axl Rose. Don’t get me wrong, I loved every minute of it. However, what I loved most of all was the fact that it was all completely unexpected. Is this the influence of John Galliano? Who knows? All we can say for certain is that we approve of the change.

However, there were plenty of pieces in the collection that were classic Oscar de la Renta. His gowns were as beautiful as ever, his cocktail dresses the finest of finery seen on the catwalk. The vibrant colours gave life to the collection and the attention to detail from embroidery to almost chain mail-like embellishments solidified this master’s endless imagination.

There was so much to love here. Oscar, I’ve fallen in love all over again.
