Behind every successful catwalk show there’s a well oiled machine
working in the wings. For many designers, this show is six months in the
making and for others its a whole lifetime. For one musician, this
week’s runway was her very first as a designer. Whether it’s a lifetime
of inspiration or a moment of fashionable drive, Rihanna presented her
collection for River Island to the world last night and it was one heck
of a party. However, as mentioned, there is no party without
preparation. River Island gave Fashion Foie Gras an exclusive
behind-the-scenes look at the prep for the big reveal. It’s amazing how easy
it all looks once everything’s done and dusted, but trust me when I say a lot of hard work went into making this all happen.
When bumping around backstage, we did steal a moment with one of the most important players on the night, Adam Selman. Selman, Rihanna’s costume designer and
co-collaborator on the collection said ‘Really excited to be back in
London especially as we are
showing the collection at London Fashion Week. To see the whole
together after months of hard work is pretty exhilarating. Everything in
collection is something Rihanna would love to see a girl walking down
street wearing ‘
When asked about the inspiration for the collection
and showing in London, Adam commented, ‘London Street Style is a big
inspiration. The kids here are
not afraid to rock a variety of looks. London’s reputation for
nurturing original creative talent is essential for the growth of the
industry.” Yes, yes and yes. He’s truly hit the nail on the head when it comes to London’s talent for original and creative fashion.
So here we go, a look at what was going on before the Rihanna for River Island show. From coconut water and models in prep to an intimate moment with the star of the night herself, here’s a look at Rihanna for River Island backstage.
