Antonio Berardi once again proved himself as one of London’s brightest fashion stars today. The designer presented his autumn winter 2013 collection on the eleventh floor off an office building just off Bishopsgate in London to a few honoured guests. The atmosphere was clean and cold and the view was grey, as one would expect from a foggy London morning. However, such a backdrop proved to be the perfect compliment to a collection that highlighted rich and dark palettes while showcasing different textures and embellishments.
After the show I ran into a friend and we were discussing Berardi and the show that we had just seen. He said something the really stuck with me. He said, “Berardi is one of the guys that actually knows what he is doing.” That may sound like the most simple statement but truly, it says it all. Berardi really does know exactly what he is doing. He knows the perfect placement for sheer panelling, the ideal areas for embellishment, the correct way in which we cut certain fabrics to flatter rather than “fatter” a women’s wonderful curves. Antonio Berardi gets it. He gets what women want and he creates a collection each season that women will buy. And this season, he’s created a collection that contains a few Oscar dress contenders. I’ll just say I think we should keep our eyes peeled come the night of the Academy Awards.
