Matthew Williamson Spring Summer 2013: Backstage and show highlights

Best show of London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013 hands down goes to Matthew Williamson. I had the great privilege of interviewing Matthew backstage with Triumph Lingerie the morning of show day and the cool as a cucumber designer walked us through his inspirations for the collection, which marks 15 years of the Matthew Williamson brand. Alongside the new collection, the brand also launched shoes for the first time ever. So in short this was a show celebrating both old and new. It was also a show that had many jaws on the floor. I still hadn’t managed to pick mine up by the time the show started. I had seen the collection on hangers before the catwalk models brought them to life and I truly don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about seeing a collection in action.

For Spring Summer 2013, Matthew Williamson brought his love for India front and centre in his designs. Beautiful scenic views of Tibet and Kerala from artist Shane McAdams decorated trousers, shorts and blouses and each and every one of these garments have been added to my wish list for next year. Bright and beautiful colours dripped down garments and created beautifully striking statement pieces for the season. We also saw the ombre trend continuing as well as the expected trademark Matthew Williamson embellishments on several pieces. This was clearly a Matthew Williamson show from start to finish but with a wonderful spin on the exotic. In short, I’m in love!
