Acne’s Spring Summer 2013 show notes begin with a quote from Emmylou Harris’s Wrecking Ball, “Meet me at the Wrecking Ball, Wrecking Ball, I’ll wear something pretty and white and we’ll go dancing tonight.” What does it all mean? Well after seeing what looked like a square ice skate rink in the middle of the room, I thought we might be in for a bit of a square dance. Then came the cowboy hats down the catwalk, sometimes two hats piled as one, and I was wondering if I wasn’t headed in the right direction. There wasn’t any direct mention of a country influence for Jonny Johansson’s Acne show but he did note that he was greatly influenced by music. Could he have been listening to some Dolly Parton as well as Emmylou when designing the collection? I like to think so. I like to picture Johansson sketching away as Dolly’s 9 to 5 is blaring on the studio sound system.
Acne’s collection as a whole this season seemed to get mixed reviews as we all walked out the front door. I heard exclamations of brilliance and others who spoke of being let down. This is, of course, always the way with shows. Some fashions aren’t for everything. But I will say Acne had me at the first blazer with what appeared to be an alligator skin lapel. I mean honestly, what’s not to love with that Crocodile Dundee moment? From there my next must have item was the white jacket that came out with a matching cowboy hat. I even fell for the off the shoulder numbers knowing full well that this look would never in a million years work with my bust. There was plenty to like, if not love in this collection. So, bravo to all those involved… anyone fancy a dosey doe?
