Goofy in Balmain, Minnie Mouse in Lanvin and Daisy Duck in Dolce & Gabbana!

Imagine a world where all of your favourite Disney characters are dressed in designer labels? Goofy is goofing around looking chic in Balmain, Minnie Mouse is attending a party on Mickey’s arm wearing Lanvin and Daisy Duck is lighting up the town in Dolce & Gabbana. It’s a childhood dream meeting adult fashion fantasy… and it has happened. Barneys and The Walt Disney Co. are collaborating on a holiday store campaign that, quite simply, is the best thing we’ve seen since Lady Gaga took over last year.

On November 14th, the Barney’s Madison Avenue store windows will transform for the Disney Electric Holiday with Barney’s with a 3-D light show, a film transforming our favourite Disney characters into fashion heroes (focusing on Minnie Mouse’s dream to be part of the Paris fashion shows) and an original score by Michael Giacchino.

The amount of work that has gone into making this happen is off the charts but we can only imagine that the end result will be worth every minute of all the time put in.  Disney and the fashion world had to come together as one on this project, which is no easy task. Animators had to study the catwalks, meet with designers and industry professionals to get every single detail correct in creating the characters and atmosphere for the film. This included the decision to stretch all our favourite Disney characters to a height of 5’11 so they wouldn’t look out of place on the catwalk in designers’ finest.

Marking the date on my calendar now as there’s no way I’m missing this main fashion event. {WWD}
