The big news circulating this morning is the announcement that YSL’s new Creative Director Hedi Slimane has decided to drop the “Yves” from Yves Saint Laurent. Now before we all get our respective undergarments in a twist, let’s just confirm what exactly is happening.
First of all, the name that’s changing is the ready-to-wear line which will be titled “Saint Laurent Paris.” It should be noted that when this line first appeared in 1966, it was titled “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche.” So if you break it all down it appears Hedi Slimane is looking to the past for the future of YSL.
WWD has reported the Yves Saint Laurent will continue to use the full name and the iconic “YSL” logo for “an array of products, from shoes to lipsticks.” So not to fear, loyal followers of Yves Saint Laurent. The future of YSL is not in danger, it’s just getting a bit of a shake up with a retro relaunch.
No official look at any new logos incorporating the new name but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we have our hands on it! {WWD}
