A few weeks ago I had the great pleasure in sitting down with two young girls who have decided to walk down the path of starting and promoting a new leather goods brand in London. The two women, as I suppose they wouldn’t like being called “girls”, are behind the brand Liliyang. It’s the brainchild of Lily Yang Li and Lucy Dyer, who have brought their ideas of beauty, heritage and luxury together to form a company that is certainly worthy of recognition.
First and foremost, anyone brave enough to launch a new luxury brand in this day and age must be instantly labeled as ambitious. It’s a dog eat dog world of fashion where big boys like Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci, dominate the playing field. Several competitors have attempted to jump into the rat race and 99% pack up their “luxury bags” and go home not too long after they started. But there is something special about this brand and the way in which they design, PR themselves and keep an optimistic view of the future. Quite simply put, it is inspiring. I was seduced by their tales of creation for the bags and their practical approach to design while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing construction. The bags are as classic as they come but have a contemporary twist and a logical layout. Most of the bags and purses are divided into beautiful compartments that allow for smart organization and daily convenience.
The price point for these items are steep. There’s no point in sugarcoating that. However, the quality and craftsmanship of the bags backs up the three digit pricetag dangling from the handle. Liliyang has actually provided a special discount to FFG readers for the next two weeks.
