This Christmas I was in the United States spending a quiet holiday with my family. Well, let’s just say the holiday was somewhat quiet and relaxing until the day after Christmas bargain hunting began!
On December 26th, my mother and I leapt from our beds, threw on stretchy pants (holiday feasting is a bitch) and jumped into our cars bound for the nearest major shopping center to Beaufort, South Carolina. We were headed to the Hilton Head Island shops, specifically Off Fifth in Tanger outlets. What we thought would be a nice southern stroll through stores was utter chaos in the Saks Fifth Avenue outlet.
Little did we know that the shop had been open from 7:30am that morning! Not only that but the store was offering up to 60% already reduced merchandise up until the clock struck noon. Now what made this more chaotic than anything else? We arrived at 11:30! That meant we had under 30 minutes to search, find, try on and pay, in order to achieve maximum savings. I couldn’t wish for a better shopping sidekick than my mom! She is the rockstar of shopping and I swear she can smell a bargain five miles out. We rushed from rail to rack sifting through the rubbish and striking gold every twenty-fifth hanger swish!
We hit pay dirt when mom laid her hands on the gorgeous Ralph Lauren poncho seen above. I don’t need to remind you of my love affair for this brand. But loving such a prestigious label can sometimes come at a great cost and my American Express begs me to give up this obsession every month! Alas, nothing will change in 2012 but in the last month of 2011 my finances cheered for me as I found a $1,500 Ralph piece priced down under $400 with an additional 30% off!
In the end we walked out with two shopping bags each full of delightful goodies marked down at next to nothing and I returned to London with a bag that far exceeded the weight limits for luggage!
I hope you all managed to find your little slice of bargain heaven this sale season! I’m already mapping out strategies for next year’s haul!
NOTE: Yes, the pictures are goofy but it was early and Starbucks wasn’t open yet! Forgive me… I was giddy and exhausted all wrapped into one! 😉
