How and why did you get involved with ShoeDazzle?
I loved the synergy between charity and fashion at ShoeDazzle. I love fashion and launchedCocoPerez.comabout celebrity style. What better way to be more involved in fashion that be able to become a designer! When ShoeDazzle asked me to be part of their “Celebrity Shoe Design Program for Charity” I was really excited.
What was involved in the design process with these two shoes?
The process was really great! I met with the ShoeDazzle team and we discussed what my shoe would look like – and my inspiration. We ended up designing up two shoes instead of one! I wanted something that I could wear, and the ladies could buy for their boyfriends. I also wanted to create a cool heel with a bit of edge that the ladies could rock. I wanted to design shoes that I thought would look fierce on the red carpet.
For example, did you know what you wanted exactly or did you go through a few different styles before deciding onthe two?
I had some ideas of what I wanted but it was really a collaborative process. I really wanted a shoe with a pop, and think the sneaker is the perfect pop that compliments a guy or girl’s look. I am really happy with the way the shoes turned out!
Did you have any famous men or women in mind for wearing these pieces?
I thought of “Sex and the City” and the character Carrie Bradshaw when designing “Sparkle.” I could picture her wearing that shoe for a night on the town! I designed “Shine” with the idea of adding cool details to a sneaker which featuresstud embellishments and zipper detailing.
Can you tell us a bit more about the charity Stonewall and why you chose this particular charity to support?
Stonewall is Britain’s foremost LGB charity which for over 20 years has worked to secure equal rights for lesbian, gay and bisexual people at home, at school and at work. Some of Stonewall’s many successes to date include the introduction of civil partnerships, equalisation of the age of consent and lifting the ban on lesbians and gay men serving in the military. Stonewall’s recent Education for All campaign continues to combat the epidemic of homophobic bullying which affects 65 per cent of young gay people in secondary schools. But there’s still so much to do which is why I’m thrilled to be donating 100% of the profits of my ShoeDazzle shoes to the charity.
