A facial at Green & Spring at the Berkeley Hotel…a guest post by celebrity makeup artist Emma Day

If you’re a Londoner stuck in town for August you’re probably in need of some escapism and serenity, especially after the trauma we have all experienced with the riots. If you can’t get out of the city, which I couldn’t last week due to work commitments, then you have to make the most of what’s here and find a little oasis of your  own.

I found mine at Green and Spring at the Berkeley hotel in Knightsbridge with a facial that couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. If you have never come across the spa, at the top of this lovely hotel, then I suggest you take the day off and go treat yourself to a piece of heaven. The spa has a wonderful open air pool and the whole place is imbued with an air of serene luxury and quiet. Green and Spring is a recent addition to the beauty rooms here and the invitation to try out on of their facials was somewhat hard to resist.

I recently mentioned Green and Spring on FFG with my bathroom shelf must haves. I must say I find this a seriously delicious brand. I had only tested out the bath products and candles and I love the wholesome English goodness that this brand embodies. It smells good, it looks good (love the bird motif and the graphics) and it works. Using traditional English flowers and essences such as chamomile, rosemary, elderflower, thyme, geranium, marshmallow, peppermint and rose, inspired by traditional English flora and fauna, all the products are hand blended, not tested on animals and paraben free.

If you are someone who likes your facials high tech and full of the science bit then this facial is not for you. Following the natural ethos of the brand – this is based on massage and relaxation and the natural goodness of the products. One of things I really liked about this was the application of honey to brighten my face;  there was something gorgeously old fashioned about it and it was actually effective and something I will be trying at home in my bath. I have to admit that I do like an extraction and that was the one thing maybe lacking in this facial, it always makes me feel fully cleansed. However, I did come out of the facial completely serene, relaxed  and glowing, rather like one would feel after a weekend in the English countryside. My therapist also gave me a brilliant shoulder massage and after feeling the horrendous state of my knotted back suggested I try the Green and Spring Cloud 9 massage which sounds incredible. I will be back for more!
