Celebrity Makeup Artist Emma Day Does Cannes and lives to tell the tale…

Well another Cannes is over. The Festival’s 64th event certainly had a special buzz about it. If there was doom and gloom in the worlds economy, you had no whiff of it here. With movie stars descending from Europe and the U.S into this chic riviera town, one could only describe the scene as elegant and fabulous chaos. Attracting movie people, industry movers and shakers and simply those up for a good time hoping to savour some of the glamour, I can safely say that after six days there, I am completely shattered.

Moving from hotel to yacht to hotel with my trusty yellow Lipault case packed full of makeup, down to the Croisette to the Carlton and the Martinez and then up to Antibes and the Hotel du cap, I realised one thing – I’m very glad I packed some comfy ballet pumps. This is a town where you are on the go all the time and practical measures were needed. However, I made sure I had some red Rupert Sandersons and Gold YSL tributes in my case to pull out in a party emergency, some plasters for my sore feet and a little black dress for an impromptu change at the drop of a hat. A girl has to be prepared at all times in this town as you never know where you are going to end up! Parties literally go on all day, whether in the beach clubs or cool underground spots like Le Baron,. From boats to hotels, this town just does not sleep.

Cannes is a place to leave your insecurities at home as it is absolutely heaving with the “beautiful” people. Herve Leger, Azzedine Alaia, Ungaro, Chanel, Valentino – you name it, I saw it strutting down the streets on perfect size 6 blow-dried beauties out to paint the town red (sometimes accompanied by distinctly older gentlemen of unlimited means). However, my main purpose being in Cannes was to get various beauties ready for the red carpet – my makeup case was rammed with Sisley skincare, Chanel, Dior and packets of Eyelure lashes for my clients.

This week I worked with Eve Hewson (Bono’s daughter,  making her screen debut in Chanel and Miu Miu), Rosario Dawson (rocking amazing Fendi creations for shoots with Ellen Von Unwerth and the Haiti fundraiser), Eugenie Niarchos (Pucci muse, for the AMFAR and Replay parties) and society lady Ella Krasner. Here are some pics from my Cannes adventure……
