Where to start? This is the question I’ve been throwing back and forth for the past fifteen minutes. I took over two hundred pictures at the Gant by Michael Bastian presentation in New York this weekend. I couldn’t stop clicking. In fact my snapping finger felt as if it wanted to hand in notice by the time I left The Terminal. If you haven’t figured it out already, I consider myself the ultimate prep. One of my first picture books was The Preppy Handbook…if that tells you anything. So when I was asked to fly to NYC and review the Gant by Michael Bastian Fall/Winter 2011 presentation, I’m not lying when I tell you that the wind was knocked out of me for a bit. Love Gant, love Michael Bastian, so it’s a no brainer that the combination is killer for me.
This is Michael Bastian’s second season working with Gant. His first collection, for Spring Summer 2011, is dropping in stores at the end of this month so keep a look out. For Fall Winter, Michael says he “envisioned a couple that put their city life behind them, and escaped to a small cabin in the middle of the forest, blanketed in snow and isolated from the rest of the world.” Bastian achieved this “vibe” with alpaca knitted sweaters, skinny cargos, corduroy anoraks, faux fur skirts, silk dresses, denim pin-stripped blazers and plaid button down shirts – all layered to perfection for the presentation. This is a show that commands respect not only for the obvious genius behind each and every piece but also for the way in which each look was styled.
I think the pictures of the presentation speak for themselves. Enjoy…(and watch this space as we’ll keep you updated on when the collection is available in store, price points and more).
