Fashion Trivia: Do you know which designer was responsible for the costumes in The Great Gatsby?

If you haven’t seen The Great Gatsby, staring the gorgeous Robert Redford, you must put it on your things to do list this holiday.  You will immediately notice that the most important character in the movie, besides Redford, is the costume design.  There can be only one man behind such fantastic attire and that one man happens to be behind the brand that is, and always will be, my life brand. I am speaking of no one other than Ralph Lauren. Although the film was set in the roaring twenties, it was filmed in 1974 and was one of the moments in time that many fashion historians consider to be “the making of Ralph Lauren.” Three years after designing the clothes for The Great Gatsby, Ralph Lauren was asked to do the same for Woody Allen’s Annie Hall. It’s no coincidence that these are the two films we reference most often for fashion influences in the 1970s when it comes to tailored and sophisticated style. Every Ralph Lauren runway reminds us of the Great Gatsby in one way or another (usually with the delicate lacework displayed). Just take a look at Spring Summer 2011…

Ralph Lauren, FFG salutes you today, sir.
