Fashion Foie Gras Interviews Molly Sims in 10 Questions

Fashion Foie Gras has followed Molly Sims’ career through Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and Covergirl modelling to starring on the hit TV show, Las Vegas, and now with her new Jewelry line, Grayce.  Molly Sims is an American household name. However, she’s also setting an example for budding entrepreneurs everywhere.  Sims has decided to reach beyond her skills in front of the camera and show the world her talent for style, specifically in the accessories arena.  Thus far she’s taken the world by storm with her new line of jewelry, Grayce by Molly Sims. We thought it was as good a time as every to interview the legendary model and Molly was kind enough to give us a few minutes of her time…

FFG: What led you to take the jump from Model and TV star to jewelry designer?

Molly: The reason I decided to design my own jewelry line was because my mother collected jewelry for the past 30 years.  When I first started modeling and acting, I kind of got known for wearing her vintage pieces on the red carpet, at shoots and in everyday life, so it just seemed like the right thing to do. I love it and it’s a passion I have had for the past ten years.  I feel that jewelry can change a look just as much as clothing can.  I build looks around jewelry instead of clothing dictating the look.

FFG: What brands did you wear before starting your own line that accurately reflected your style and taste?

Molly: I wore a lot of vintage brands from my mother; anything from Kenneth Jay Lane and Fred Leighton to Chanel and YSL.

FFG: What’s the story behind the name “Grayce“?

Molly: The name Grayce stands for what my mother always told me to be in life, ‘Graceful and Grateful.”

FFG: What would you recommend for our readers for Christmas presents this year for loved ones?

Molly: I love the special edition 2002 Andy Warhol Dom Perignon for $150.00. It’s such a great present.

FFG: We’re already looking at Spring/ Summer 2011. What are we going to see from Grayce by Molly Sims? Do you tend to follow the trends you see on the catwalks or do you prefer sticking with what you believe to be in style?

Molly: You will see a lot of long, chunky gold pieces that are made elegantly from Grayce in Spring/Summer 2011. I follow trends from the catwalks and what I believe to be in style. I will never be too trendy, but I love to know what is going on. I follow fashion and love learning about new designers.

FFG: As a woman, receiving jewelry from loved ones is incredibly personal. Is there one piece of jewelry you’ve received in your lifetime that is a memory you will always cherish?

Molly: My mom and dad bought me a Cross Necklace from Tiffany & Co. when I graduated. It is where my love for crosses came from.

FFG: Is there one piece of jewelry you never leave home without?

Molly: I never leave home without my Grayceful Strand (hsn.com) because I can wear it so many different ways. It’s a very day to night piece.

FFG: How are you celebrating Christmas this year and will there be lots of Grayce by Molly Sims under the tree for the family?

Molly: I will be in Miami with my family. My brother had a baby so we decided to have Christmas there every year until I have children of my own.  And of course there will be lots of Grayce underneath the tree!

FFG: And finally…and words of advice for young girls reading this interview? Anything you would have said to a younger version of yourself for advice on the future?

Molly: Find your passion and what you love doing. Never stop saying “what do I want to be when I grow up.” Focus on your future because your future will become your present.

Thank you, Molly, for your time! Hopefully we’ll be in NYC to see your Spring/Summer collection up close and personal soon!
