LVMH buys 14.2% of Hermes International

LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) announced yesterday that they have bought 14.2% or 15 million shares of Hermes International. LVMH have made a statement expressing their wish to be a long term shareholder and work towards preserving a legendary brand.  Of course most of us would think this is a bid to take over the brand and bring it under the LVMH controlling umbrella which includes dozens of familiar names in fashion such as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Fendi and Celine. However, they have made it very clear that they are not interested in taking a controlling stake but are at the moment just investing in a legendary brand.

We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds…
