Versace Spring Summer 2011

I am a lover of minimalist fashion. I’ve always thought less is more when it comes to putting together an outfit.  The classiest women on earth have always found joy in simple patterns. However, that does not mean I don’t like to have fun with my fashion.  I love a good print and have over a dozen DVF wrap dresses to prove it.  That being said, I thought the Versace show this season had too much going on this time around. There were too many prints, too many additional straps or too much cutting out of fabric. Essentially there were too many bells and whistles. It’s almost as if Donatella is throwing everything but the kitchen sink into her designs in an effort to find something new.  Don’t do it Donatella.  Your collections have always been amazing.  You have a talent most designers would kill for.  Don’t give in to the hype. You don’t have to recreate the wheel each season. Work with what you know and love…

But having said that now…there were a few dresses that were absolutely stellar in the collection including the red cocktail dress and the nude lace dress.

I’m sure this show will get plenty of good reviews. Please don’t think is a bad critique. I am a great lover of the Versace brand…so of course I don’t favour too much change from season to season with the designs.

Ok, I’ve said my peace. I’ll step down from the sartorial soapbox now.
