Last night I had the great privilege of dining at London’s Aqua Kyoto restaurant with a good friend of mine. I’ve been hearing about Aqua and it’s amazing food and drinks for sometime now and have yet to even try to make a reservation. Perhaps it was the hype that convinced me there would be a huge waiting list or the gorgeous body guard on the door which made me think that only Madonna or Gwynnie types dined there (which they do). The reason doesn’t matter now. What matters is that I have discovered a new – to me at least – London gem that is nestled right in the heart of the west end and smack between Topshop and Liberty’s! I don’t know about you but after shopping on Oxford and Bond Street I am absolutely exhausted at day’s end. Aqua was the perfect way to unwind and look down on the shopping streets above as the sun fell below the London skyline. Pair that with the best lychee martini I’ve ever tasted…bliss!
The atmosphere both inside and out is absolutely majestic. You’re carried away to another world, a far off land, from the moment you walk in the door. London no longer exists outside for you. It’s just Aqua and the here and now. How can you live in anything other than the present when the food tastes so amazing? My biggest tips for the night 1. Order the beef with mustard sauce and 2. Find Edison on your trip in to the restaurant. He’s the host for the restaurant and he truly does make you feel as if you are the only person in the room. He even put up with our girlish giggles and participated in ridiculous conversations. He helped us in navigating the menu and each dish he recommended was out of this world. From the mixed appetizer tray to the final spoonful of sesame ice cream I could not think of one thing I would change. I, of course, took pictures of the entire dinner. I do apologize as the images are quite dark. But there’s enough detail to get your tastebuds jumping! Fashionistas in town for London Fashion Week should make this a MUST GO for dinner!
