You may remember I did a write up of the Arcadia group press day a few weeks ago. At that point I had an opportunity to get a rough view of the AW 2010 line that Miss Selfridge would be releasing. It was impressive then and it was even more impressive when I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the items today. As I always say, “the devil is in the detail.” You can usually tell a high street item from a high quality item based on the details alone. So I got in there for the nitty gritty experience and to find out if the high street label could tackle the runway looks for fall without falling horribly behind. The good news? Miss Selfridge passed with flying colours. They capture all of the trends we saw on the catwalks with great gusto. The colder seasons are usually texture popular and 2010/11 will be no exception. There’s leather, suede, faux fur, lace, flannel, silk and wool….sometimes all at once! There was a great emphasis on accessories with layering of chunky necklaces and funky bangles. The “looped” brown leather belt seen on so many catwalks was seen throughout the display and the faux fur trend which dominated the Chanel runway was seen frequently on the Miss Selfridge models. There was a hint of Louis Vuitton found in the tailored tweed skirt suit with the leopard print scarf and a Ralph Lauren influence strongly seen on the gorgeous native american patterned wool jacket. This is definitely a shop you’re going to want to stop into come autumn.
