Style Update: A Proud American Girl

posted on: Thursday, 28 September 2017

Here at FFG, I promise to always greet you with a smile and leave the politics and the world issues at the door for you - that's what Facebook is for, right? But, I do want to say one thing and just be as loud and clear about it as I can with an open heart. I think the outfit tips it off...

I am proud to be an American. I always have been, always will be. When I left 15 years ago to move to London, I didn't do so because I was fed up with my country. I did it because of work. When I come back to American soil I get a tingle in my stomach every time the passport control officer says "welcome home, ma'am." I can feel my cheeks go pink when I hear, "bless your heart," or a "how ya'll doing" when I'm home in the Southern states. And I know, in my heart of hearts that I'll come home here to stay one day and be even more appreciative of it because of the world I have seen and the people I have met outside this country of mine.

For now, however, I show my appreciation for my heritage in silly little ways, like wearing a classic Ralph Lauren Flag Sweater. It may seem silly, but this makes me happy, truly happy. I have three brothers that have devoted their lives to serving this great country. They have done so selflessly and with a fearlessness I don't think I will really ever be able to understand. I write a fashion blog. Let's be honest, I'm not saving lives. So, whenever I can (and if you've read FFG for a while now you'll know this already), I like to tell the world how proud I am of my family, and my three brothers in particular, for the choices they have made and the sacrifices that have come with those decisions.

And now I feel like a simple choice in outfit has turned into a tell all. Totally didn't mean for that to happen. But, I do so love this ensemble because in truth it is more than just an outfit and I wanted to share that with you. For me, it's a way of saying thank you to my brothers, and to all the men and women that serve beside them daily. So, if there are any servicemen or family members reading, I hope you don't mind if I say you are appreciated, you are remembered and you are always in my thoughts. It may sound cheesy to use a Ralph Lauren sweater to say that, but I'm going full cheese and proud.
