I've been getting a lot of questions lately about what I do for my skincare regime, or anti-aging skincare regime, I should say, at the age of 37. Thank you for the lovely emails claiming I look younger than my age. I don't know a woman alive who doesn't enjoy such flattery. So, yeah, keep 'em coming. Compliments welcome as it seems my skin is the only thing keeping me feeling young these days. I'll have to read someone else's blog to tackle the whole diet and exercise issue, but that's another topic for a different day. Right now, we're talking skincare regime.
I spend a lot of time talking about products individually, as I use them, and I thought it was high time for a change. Don't get me wrong. I'm going to continue to feature the heroes, but I'm going to start doing a monthly recap of what I'm using as a daily regime. As products come in, I trial absolutely everything, but there are only a select bucket-load that I end up using until the last drop. So here's February's beauty haul, which I decided I had to do after emptying by beauty bag in the Carolina's two weeks ago. I had every intention to pack light for going home, but didn't want to leave one of these products behind. So, yeah, that's when I officially decided I had to share.
I'm going to go through the whole item list, with a few details below. But, I'll wait until the very end to show you how exactly I go through the products, divided by morning and night. So, drumroll please...
I've spoken about this product before and I've put my money where my mouth is. I've already been through two of these since Caroline released the product in January. I'm obsessed. It's great to travel with, as it's really a two in one, and my skin is all the happier for being super cleansed at night. Yes, I only use this at night as it's a cleansing duo that's meant to get the makeup, dirt and city grime off your face before sleeping.
In the morning, I only use one cleanser and I'm swearing by The White Company's new skincare range, specifically The White Company Super Balm. It's a great balm that turns to oil as you rub it into the skin. It's one of those great products that feels like it's cleansing and nourishing all at the same time. I absolutely adore this cleanser and have about three days left in the tube. Panic level about to be reached. Must remember to buy tomorrow!
I was just introduced to this product last month. I told you guys I had a few burst veins removed from my face at the start of January and my doc has made me promise I'd never leave home without sunscreen on my face. Being introduced to Murad's Invisiblur Perfecting Shield couldn't have come at a better time. I've been using this every morning and have, a few times, gone out wearing nothing more than this and some mascara. It, amazingly, blurs your skin and gives that great photoshopped like vibe. But, it's also protecting the skin with SPF30. You will love this in your life.
This is a brand spanking new product and it's one that I use as and when. It's a general use balm, which means it actually has 1,000 different ways to be worked into your daily regime. I use it to tame unruly brows, sooth chapped lips, give a bit of a highlight to otherwise dry parts of my face, etc etc. This really is exactly what it's marketed to be- a lifesaver you didn't know you needed until you have it. It also has an incredible scent that will constantly make you think you're on a tropical holiday.
I've only just become that girl that uses masks. This was not something in my previous bag of tricks, but the more I speak to people about skin "upkeep" the more I hear that a mask a week, or even twice a week, can really change the game. So, this is one of two masks I'm using regularly. It's more about exfoliating and targeting fine lines than anything else. Ok, and rather cheesily, I get a little thrill out of the "Hollywood, California" location on the bottle. Makes me miss my west coast home and family.
I've spoken about Eisenberg Paris before, but really I'm positively obsessed with this moisturizer and it's trio-molecular technology. It has little capsules of vitamins in the lotion that burst as they are rubbed into the skin, delivering potent ingredients straight to the skin as you massage it in. A little too obsessed with that, I think. As I rub the lotion in at night, I think about little bombs of skincare goodness being released to fight aging. See.. I totally have a few screws loose in this here head of mine!
During the day, I'm using one of the most indulgent creams my face has ever come into contact with. The smell is heaven in a jar and yes, it smells as luxurious as this bottle costs. Let's just put it this way - it comes in a jar that looks like it contains a diamond. It's not quite diamond prices, but nearly there. It claims to build "new skin from within," and I have to say their claims aren't too far off the mark. I will be in a flood of tears when the last application takes place.
Alright, so in full disclosure, I was sent all three of these Estee Lauder Primers. I did not go to the counter and think, "I'll just buy one of each." In reality, I would have gone and bought the illuminator, but never would have thought to buy a smoother or matte primer. And once again I'm reminded of how stupid I am when it comes to knowing what I need. The Smoother Primer is amazing! It really is the universal primer we've all been hoping for and makes any makeup I wear last for the entire day. This is a first for me. So, I'm obsessed.
The Illuminator is exactly what it implies. This is the primer you put on to give "the glow" and even to add a bit of highlight after you've applied the rest of your makeup. I use this more than anything as I love a healthy highlight in the sun!
Again, like it says on the packaging - this is all about matte! If you want the anti-shine, this is your go to product. It gives a great matte look to the skin and, well, that's really all I have to say about that. See ya later, shine!
Basically, there is a primer here for everyone. I've tested them all and I have to say it's between the smoother and the illuminator for me, however the matte did come in handy for a few overheated days in the south last week!
This is yummy. In fact, everything that Bloom & Blossom do is yummy. But, creating a product that can help with sleep is something I'll take everyday of the week and yes, it is part of a beauty regime. Sleep is perhaps the most important part of any beauty regime. Don't believe me? Just google "lack of sleep" and "skin." It's shocking. Get a good 7-8 hours, lovelies!
Every skin guru from here to Timbuktu is screaming about the importance of Vitamin C these days. It's pretty insane, but the results are in and it turns out it's an essential ingredient in the anti-aging game. This will help fight the wrinkle game, give firmness and restore elasticity. It also goes a long way in brightening your face and really just recharging the skin. Love this and truly do see a difference from using it.
This is one of Bobbi Brown's best sellers and for good reason - it's a game changer. If you aren't using anything for under eye treatment, let this be your first purchase. I use it religiously as I find it's the best product to deliver moisture to the eye area, while also acting as the perfect base for under eye concealer. Basically it's a best seller for a reason and I don't go anywhere without this.
Here's the second mask I'm using on a weekly basis and I'm calling it my spring in a bottle. This is the bounce back mask. It's what you use when you feel like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards. Hey, we've all been there in feeling a little less than lovely with the skin and this product is the solution. Watch out though, as you'll look so good straight after you'll think you're supermodel ready. Truly, went out without makeup at all a few times after using!
Truth be told, I use more than one eye product every day because this is the area of my face where I'm aging first and I'm in a constant battle to slow it down. Eisenberg's Soin Sub was recommended to me because of the undereye circles I was sporting (mainly from lack of sleep). It has a "targeted draining complex" which actually works to deplete puffiness and undereye circles. That was enough for me. I use it every day before the Bobbi Brown Cream and the combo is truly golden.
This is really just a fun one as I switch up lip balms a lot, but have been through two of these this month. The smell is in line with what I'm obsessed with at the moment - the tropics! I can't get enough so I'm using this many times daily and each time I feel instantly thrown back to sipping a cocktail from a coconut on a white sandy beach. Dreams and goals! It also has a really killer nudey type sheen to it that gives a very glam, but natural, look to your makeup. Oh, also keeps lips super soft. That's it's job right?
I've talked about this stuff before and I'll keep talking about it until every single person on this planet is using it. The Daily Peel is the way forward and Dr. Gross is leading the charge. I've been using these for nearly a month solid and my skin has never looked better. When Dr. Dennis Gross said this was the answer to tired skin I sort of laughed and thought "yeah, everyone says that." Oh how stupid I felt after the first week of using these pads and finding that my skin actually looked more awake. It's insane. Please, if you buy one thing out of this entire list, make it the daily peel. Start with the less potent pads and work up to the extra strength. It's the best investment you can make in your skin right now.
Another Dr. Gross product, and one I'm using about every third day at the moment to keep a summery glow. These are brilliant and deliver a tan that's worthy of a South Beach Miami moment any day of the week. I use at night and wake up with a killer glow. Seriously the easiest self tanner for the face that I've ever experienced. Comes in a little pad that you use once, throw away and go. Again, a must have for summer skin... especially if you are good and keeping your face out of the sun!
Now, onto how I use all of these things... Here's the breakdown, in order of application, for morning and night:
The White Company Super Balm: For cleansing the skin.
Dr. Dennis Gross Vitamin C Serum: Apply first after cleansing for a shot of Vitamin C.
Carita Diamant de Beauté: Lock in moisture for the day, apply all over face and neck.
Eisenberg Paris Soin Sublimateur: Apply all around eye area and massage in to "depuff"
Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream: Moisturise and prepare for makeup application (trick - keep this in the fridge!)
Murad Invisible Protecting Shield: Never leave home without this! It's one of the most essential things you can put on your face! SPF!
Babe Balm: Eyebrows, cheeks, any dry spots.... basically the cure all for any remaining ailments.
Revlon Kiss Lip Balm: For kissable lips ;)
Pixi x Caroline Hirons Double Cleansing: For cleansing the skin.
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel: Directly after cleansing to give the skin back it's glow!
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad: For the ultimate self tan.
Eisenberg Paris Hydra Comfort Moisturizer: Final moisturiser before bed.
Bloom and Blossom Sleep Spray: To get a good night's sleep!
