A new FFG: All you need to know

Emily Johnston Fashion Foie Gras

This weekend, Fashion Foie Gras celebrated a monumental date – five years in existence. It’s been five years of some crazy experiences, new friends and exotic locations. I know most people celebrate their anniversaries by looking back and reminiscing, but, today I’d like to share a look forward and announce a big change for FFG that I’m sure will result in mixed emotions.

As of today, Fashion Foie Gras is going in a new direction.

For the past five years I have tirelessly worked to deliver fashion news, personal stories and sponsored content. In the beginning, when I was interviewed for various publications, I was always asked how many people I had working on staff here at FFG.  The answer has never changed: I am a party of one. Delivering between 6-10 news stories, every day for five years has resulted in over 11,000 stories being written by yours truly. I have loved every minute of every day and have not once taken a day off – not once in five years, no matter where I was on the planet.

A funny thing happened last week, however. I decided to go back through the archives of FFG and look into what I had written in years’ past. The fashion news tidbits were of little to no interest to me. Instead, I was drawn to the content that contained a story that was personal  – still related to fashion and luxury lifestyle, but told from a perspective of  “experience.”  A lightbulb went on. The fashion news has always been filler for what I really wanted to do – write about things I know, love and have done or experienced myself.

And so, if you will permit me, I’d like to try something different for you, dear reader. I’d like to try to bring you the more personal posts, the posts that have taken hours, not minutes, to edit and compose. These are the posts that are truly what blogging was developed for in the first place – to be a place where you can share “you” and your experiences. And I’d like to share more of me, not just the “fashion news.”

For those of you that are addicted to the magazine covers and the daily news fix, I’m not saying this will go entirely. I’ll still be delivering that – but in a new way. I have, and will continue to, read over 2,000 blogs daily. I’d like to start paying more attention to the various writing talent out and about on the world wide web. I will be doing this on Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter regularly – as in hourly. I’ll be looking around the web and bringing you a stream of content through social in an effort to keep you informed and bring out some new talent shares, as well as some old blog love affairs. I will also be sending out a weekly newsletter that will keep everyone up to date on not only FFG’s weekly posts, but also suggesting some great purchases you’re used to seeing on the site, as well as some features yet to be decided. You’ll have to subscribe {look to the top right hand side of the page} to make sure you see these new additions.

If you’re addicted to the shopping posts, not to worry -they’ll stick around. I’m just going to be a lot more select in what I recommend and more heavily edited in my shopping features.

In truth, this is a test. At the end of the day, you are only as good as your readership. Let’s call this a month’s trial. At the end of the month, we’ll see where we sit. If you guys have all disappeared, I’ll know the jig’s up and it’s been a nice ride. But, I do hope you’ll stay and I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy the idea of more effort being put into bigger and better stories for you all. This is a new journey and it’s one I’m very excited about embarking upon.

Feel free to comment below and let me know feelings, thoughts, disappointments, death threats etc. But also feel free to register what you’ve loved about the site. I’d hate to think I’m leaving out anything that you’ll miss terribly. As I said before, it’s all about the reader. So feel free to share as I embark upon this new approach.

As always, thank you for the five years. What a wild and crazy adventure it has been. I’m hoping for another five years… let’s see how this goes.

Yours always,

The Fashion Goose
