So a celebrated fashion blogger, Do The Hot Pants, has come forward with news that will knock you right out of your chair. She has been photoshopping pictures! No, say it isn't so. Someone in fashion photoshopping an image to achieve perfection? You mean to tell me that not all the pictures we see online on style blogs are 100% unedited and completely raw? Excuse me, I need some time to myself to process all of this.
Alright, I'm back. Tongue removed from cheek. Honestly, guys, if you haven't figured out yet that photoshopping is just as alive and well online as it is in print, here's your wakeup call.
Ms. Hotpants came forward last week with the announcement that she's led her readers astray:
"In my ongoing mission to lift the veil that is currently suffocating us women, I realized that I, Hotpants, haven’t been entirely truthful with you.
I’m sorry :(
But because I want to be as transparent with you as possible, I’ve decided to expose the instances where I used photoshop to distort and change my body. I know it might only look like an inch or 2 removed from my waist, or a couple zits blurred here and there, but my stomach and my skin have been huge insecurities for me my entire life. So me revealing these images to you are a HUGE DEAL 4 ME & not to be taken lightly. I’m putting my flaws out there, as little or as big as they seem, so please respect that this isn’t easy for anyone."
In all honesty, I do have a huge amount of respect for this blogger in coming forward. She's the first we've seen so far to do so. And even if it is just doing a quick polish with nothing major, it still is something that is good to point out and for the public to remember. So next time you're eyeing up a beautiful blogger, remember the camera is a photoshop tool all in itself. Great lenses, poses, hair, makeup and photoshop all create these beautiful images we're scrolling through. Sure, some of these women look just as perfect walking down the street on a daily basis. There's just no getting around that. But for every natural, there's also a creation we're taking in on a daily basis.
Regardless of all of this, thanks to Do the Hotpants for bringing all of this to the table for conversation. Makes for very healthy realizations and we're happy you had the guts to start the ball rolling.
