Last week I had the great honour of sitting for a very special preview (with a very special person) of the film "Her." At the moment, I'm sitting here watching the Golden Globes on television and hoping and praying this movie is recognised for everything that it is. As a woman who makes her living based on an online existence, this movie touched a nerve with me. Her looks into the future and showcases what life may look like when the lines between humans and computers truly begin to blur.
Lead actor, Joaquin Phoenix plays a man who falls in love with his operating system. Basically, in the future this movie predicts that Operating Systems will have personalities. They'll become our friends, companions, and in this case, even lovers. All sounds rather strange and farfetched, no? Well, Spike Jonze presents it in a way that is all too convincing and scary. If you own a computer, can't live without your iPhone and feel paralyzed by any space that gets no signal and has no wifi, this movie may be a big ole wakeup call. See it. I guarantee you won't regret the money paid for the theatre ticket.
