We heard the rumours last week about M.I.A. collaborating with Versace. In fact, they weren't really rumours as M.I.A. herself was telling press, as she sat from row at Paris Fashion Week, to expect an announcement of their collaborative efforts. So here we have it, the announcement.
M.I.A. and Versus Versace are releasing a capsule collection. Oh, and it's being released next week. On October 16th, the collection will be available online and in selected stores. So now on to what we can expect? There are 19 pieces in the collection, featuring famous Versace emblems worked in new and inventive ways. There are pieces for both men and women and you'll find everything from printed jeans to t-shirts.
For the campaign, previewed above, M.I.A. and friends are all shot wearing the collection around East London in markets. It's pretty much a perfect fit from location to style of the shoot.
When asked about the collection, Donatella Versace commented, "I love the energy of the street, so when M.I.A. suggested we use bootlegs of Versace, I thought it was such an incredible idea. The collection is everything that I love about the new Versus Versace – it’s fast, loud, unafraid, and brings together the worlds of music and fashion. I can’t wait to see people wearing the collection.”
Set the date, people. Music and fashion are coming together once again.
