"Leave your troubles behind. You're in Jumby Bay now." These were the first words I heard upon arriving at the dock in Antigua where a boat was waiting to whisk us away to the island of Jumby Bay. A sharply dressed man came to the car, shook our hands and shared this wonderful phrase, which did in fact manage to make me forget all stress in an instant. I was headed to paradise and clearly stress wasn't welcome here.
I boarded the boat, with the whole Heidi Klein team. Yes, I am here to actually do some work. This week I'm shooting behind-the-scenes as Heidi Klein and team shoot their new look book on this fantasy island. We all smiled and let our sun deprived skin (it's been a long winter in England) absorb the rays, all the while looking forward as we saw a dock ahead come into focus and waved goodbye to the main island where we had landed just moments ago. Thank heavens for fast customs and wonderful hotel staff who get your from hectic travel to pure paradise in a matter of minutes.
When you step off the boat and onto the Jumby Bay dock, you truly do check out of reality. making your way to the resort you are greeted along the way with special treats that help to wash away any thoughts of the city that may have been lingering. A tall and dapper gentleman gave us fresh freezing cold towels to help us adjust to the massive change in temperature. The towel was not only cold, but also soaked in some heavenly scent that had me wondering if they sold it by the bottle so I could keep it in my own fridge at home. After arriving in the main area for check-in, which is another beautiful space, you are offered a rum drink or a fruit beverage. For me, this is the official "Paradise arrival notification."Nothing says island living like a beautiful rum cocktail and an absolutely charming lady offering the goods.
While I could have just stayed in the lobby for the remainder of the afternoon, it seemed the best was yet to come. Two golf carts collected our crew and took us to Harbour Heights, a section of the island where our villas are tucked away. While I will try my best to describe this paradise, I know I will fall flat. There are four buildings, one for each of us, and four living areas for us to come together and play, I mean work, of course. It's outdoor living at it's finest. And then there's the pool area. We have our very own pool that I'm sure will become our social hub in the quieter moments throughout the week.
I'll share a video later of this magnificent space, but for now I thought I'd just share a few teasers.
While the lovely air conditioning in my room was sweet relief from the extreme heat, this place is too beautiful to just sit inside while you enjoy a beautiful view and chilled air. So I strapped on my converse, a bikini and pulled out one of the Jumby Bay bikes to go and explore the island.
I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that we will be spoilt for choice on where to shoot while here.
Keep an eye out as at the end of every day I'll be posting about what we've done, where we've been and what we've seen. I wish you could all be here with us, but I'll do my best to try and share every moment with you. Jumby Bay is truly the most spectacular setting. I'll ask for your forgiveness now as I tweet, instagram and write about this experience until my fingers go numb. Heaven awaits... must dash!
