Julien Macdonald attracts an A-list front row, aka the red carpet dress hunters

Julien Macdonald presented his autumn winter 2013 collection in the beautiful Goldsmiths Hall in London this afternoon. Guests were greeted by handsome waiters holding towers of chocolate and large glasses of champange, always a mood changer, and were encouraged to relax and greet old friends as the room was readied for the collection’s big reveal.

It was definitely worth the wait. All one had to do was run ones eyes up and down the front row of Julien’s catwalk to cement any thought that he may be the red carpet’s preferred designer in London. Everyone from The Saturdays to Kelly Hoppen was present and had iPhones on hand ready to capture an image of the dress they’d be stealing for their next big event. The show certainly didn’t disappoint as look after look drew gasps and squeals from the women on the sidelines.

It seems Julien spent a lot of time playing with sheer in this collection. It was almost as if he were looking to see just how sheer he could take things without crossing the line. Let’s just say he tread very close to the edge, but it was worth every moment of risk. His sheer panels and bodices were adorned with everything from sequins to metallic shag, making these some serious red carpet statement pieces. Judging by the reactions in the room, I think it’s safe to say we’ll see plenty of these pieces catching flash bulbs in no time.
