Hudson launches glow in the dark jeans...

posted on: Tuesday, 31 January 2012

HUDSON jeans are bringing a new meaning to the neon trend.  In fact their newest fit is quite possibly the brightest neon we've seen yet in fashion. That might be because they're glow in the dark! That's right, finally someone has released a jean that will truly set you apart from the crowd late at night. Ravers and bikers alike will rejoice at this news (oh, and the super stylish trendsetters amongst us as well). The Lou Lou phosphorescent jean is inspired by a tuxedo suit pant and comes in three different colour combinations Dark Navy with Phosphorescent Orange, Burgundy with Phosphorescent Pink and Olive with Phosphorescent Yellow, which all glow under a UV light.

“The Lou Lou is about art and contrast of color.  The idea behind the jean is really a clash of different inspirations originating with the tuxedo style and drawing on phosphorescent street art and graphic elements, architecture and even athletic uniforms.”  says Ben Taverniti, HUDSON Creative and Design Director.

Look out for the Lou Lou online at Hudsonjeans.com and exclusively at Scoop NYC and Selfridges London from February!

Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2012 campaign

Alexander McQueen have just revealed their Spring Summer 2012 campaign via Twitter! The campaign stars Zuzanna Bijoch and is shot by David Sims. Does anyone else feel as if we've just entered into a parallel universe? That's what we'll always love about McQueen. The brand does exactly what great fashion is intended to do... sweeps you away from your current reality. Bravo, McQueen and team!

A "natural" sized modeling agency?

So we have the "normal" or "straight" sized modeling agencies, we have the plus size modelling agencies... so what's missing? Oh right, the "average" sized modelling agencies. So at the moment loads of online blogs/publications are now writing about an agency that has models size 6-10 featured. Well, yes, they do have some on the books but Natural Models Agency is still primarily focused on the plus size arena when it comes to models. So rather than speaking out about the size 6-10 girls they have online as breaking news, I'm celebrating the fact that this is a modelling agency that does not market themselves as a "plus size" or "+"!

Natural Models is marketing itself exactly as it should be... as an agency that looks after models who are in fact "natural" (see video below). Imagine that as a concept! The girls are curvy and beautiful and not told to starve themselves between castings. So while you may read about the rantings of this novel concept on other blogs, take a second to check out the site and praise the founder, Katie Halchishick, for her novel approach to booking natural talents.

And for those of you out there writing about fashion that are still thinking size 6-10 is "average", I'd suggest looking at the figures these days that are suggesting the national average in the USA is actually a size 14-16. That sure is a far cry from a size 6. And in closing, can we talk about how warped our world is that the "smaller than average size" is considered so out of place in today's marketplace. Retailers...do not listen to the brainwashed folks in fashion who believe size 0-2 is the only way to go! There is a giant piece of the puzzle missing for women sized 10-18 these days. They have money to spend and a great deal of trouble spending it... if you want stories, come to me... I've plenty to share.

Valentine's Day Idea: A Spa Day at St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel

I've lived in London now for close to a decade and I can remember details of my first day in this city as clearly as if it were yesterday. One detail in particularly will always stay crisp - London's most romantic structure, the old Victorian hotel at St Pancras station. When I first laid eyes on it, it was in need of great restoration and completely shut off from the general public. It was waiting for someone with enough money to restore it to it's former glory. In my mind I pictured it as a grand hotel where every last detail is brought back to life for visitors of London to enjoy. I waited and waited and every morning I looked up and smiled at my secret love in London and wondered who would one day see the potential here. Then one morning a sign went up signalling the beginning of a project! Renaissance Hotels by Marriott had decided to give this massive property another chance at luxury. It was becoming a hotel and residence property.

I'd been waiting for the right moment to visit the hotel and to finally see my dream property from the inside out. I think I was a bit scared of being disappointed so I held off on a visit. Then the Marriott pr team got in touch and invited me for a day at the spa and dinner in the Old Booking Office. It was time to swallow my dream expectations and take the plunge.
The day arrived and I stepped off the train at Kings Cross and walked down the road until I was standing in front of the imposing structure. I waved hello to my old friend, took a deep breath and stepped in. The entrance was grand and I felt as if I was climbing aboard the deck of the Titanic, only this piece of history was updated with modern touches such as required handicapped ramps and 21st century fixtures. So far so good. I took an immediate left at the entrance to head down to the basement for my spa visit. Now while I am supposed to be taking a tour of the hotel on a separate visit, I did cheat and sneak a peak at the grand staircase... Truly a step back in time but I'll save that for another story on another day.

Now on to the Spa. Mr ffg and I were in for a treat this afternoon. We had been offered a sampling of what a couple could expect on Valentine's Day here at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. As the two of us have been so stressed lately, we really needed some help (a banker and a blogger/marketing director don't find much time to relax in this day and age). So first up was a couples massage.

We changed into big lovely robes that were warm and inviting, slipped on some hotel slippers and locked away our "real world" clothes for the afternoon.
The massages went a long way in making me forget that I had ten deadlines to meet the following day. Pair that with the champagne, chocolates and strawberries that were served in the relaxation room directly following the massage and I think you'd be safe to say I was in heaven. The afternoon seemed to move at a snail's pace yet was over all too soon. After we'd maxed out on relaxation in the relaxation room, we moved into the pool area. Rather than lounging on the inviting poolside chairs, we slipped right into the warm water. The lights are dimmed and the air is comfortably warm. Everything about this room reminds me of a roman bath from the tiles to the atmosphere. I lapped it up...and no, I don't mean I swam laps. I lounged back and had the bubble button on repeat for about an hour.
Then I glanced down at my watch and discovered we were running late for dinner.

It took all the energy I could possibly find to get out of the pool, head to the changing room and ready myself for a big meal. Mr ffg and I headed back upstairs to the ground floor and made our way across the lobby and into the Booking Office.

One of the wonderful features of this hotel is the way in which old and new are brought together so spendidly. The Booking Office is a perfect example of this. They have turned the ticket desk area into one of the longest bars in London full of lovely bubbles and cocktails galore! They have also dotted tables around the gigantic room to allow for fine dining and cocktail hour amongst friends. It was a lively atmosphere and was made even more interesting by the open windows that allow visitors to overlook St Pancras station in action. You feel as if you are a traveler yourself.

The menu offers a wide selection of food that will satisfy most palates. We choose to try basic staples on the menu as truly this is sometimes the best way to judge a highly marked restaurant. Basics are so often forgotten and allowed to be that, just basics. However, the Booking Office gave us a nice surprise with our basic choices. Our antipasti starter was delicious from start to finish with only the best cuts and freshest pieces of meat. My burger was one of the most tender and sweet I have ever tasted and the boy's chicken pie was an instant hit (I'm no expert when it comes to pie...unless you're talking southern apple...then I could tell you a thing or two). For dessert I thought I'd try something completely new and ordered the butterscotch Eton mess. Of course as soon as Mr ffg's apple and berry crumble arrived I instantly had food envy.

As we finished our last bites we looked at each other and laughed. Neither of us wanted the day to end. It was romantic, relaxing and deliciously filling.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner score their first magazine cover

The younger half of the Kardashian Klan, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, have locked down their first magazine cover. The two sisters are covering Teen Vogue March 2012 looking rather relaxed in front of the camera. You have to love the "Kardashians in Training" lead in there. They are, after all, starting years before their sisters in the spotlight. Who knows...maybe next it will be "Kendall and Kylie take Kentucky..."

The new images for spring summer show off  single pieces from the current collection surrounded by vintage items that complement the colour of the accessory. First Look: David Beckham's Bodywear Ad for H&M

Warning: Ladies, if you are sitting at your office desks you may want to wait and watch when you get home. No one will be able to get through to you as you are mezmorized by a nearly nude David Beckham.  Phones will be ringing off the hook, you're boss may be shouting in front of you...but none of that will matter as you focus on your computer screen. This is the first look at his Superbowl ad featuring the new Bodywear by David Beckham Collection for H&M

Ferris Bueller is back...for Honda!

Just try and tell me that this isn't a fashion related story... Ferris Bueller was totally a fashion icon in the eighties. This guy worked leopard print and a white t-shirt like none before. He embraced a gel-ed bouffant like none before him and he had a girlfriend that embraced white leather fringe long before it become a hit on Ralph Lauren's SS11 runway! But now Ferris is back...only, he's all grown up (or at least Matthew Broderick is) and starring in a Honda car commercial for the Superbowl. Although Ferris is older, he still looks chic rocking an L.L. Bean sort of ensemble. Here's your first look at the new "of-age" Ferris Bueller...

Don't buy flowers this Valentine's Day...

I'm all for receiving flowers on Valentine's Day. I think it's a VERY romantic gesture and one that's as traditional as the holiday itself these days. However, after receiving this gorgeous Jo Malone Red Roses Scented Candle, I decided on a new idea for a gift this year.

Instead of giving the one you love a dozen roses that last about a week, why not give them a candle that produces an even more heavenly scent for much longer? Sounds random but it just seems like such a superior gift if you look at how long it will remind you of the one you love. For £38 you could buy a dozen roses or a scented candle that burns for 45 hours... decisions, decisions... Dear Mr FFG, leave the roses and please buy me the candle! Thanks, Jo Malone, for providing a fabulous alternative for Valentine's Day!

Georgia May Jagger covers Harper's Bazaar March 2012

Harper's Bazaar UK is "bringing it" this month! Their March 2012 cover featuring Georgia May Jagger is one that will definitely stick out on shelves this month as a must buy issue. Honestly, the mags that take risks these days and play it "big" are truly the winners. And yes, a disco ball ensemble is definitely a big risk! Jagger wears Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci...fabulous!

Anushka Sharma covers Vogue India February 2012

Anuska Sharma heats things up on the cover of Vogue India February 2012. The Indian actress and former model appears on the cover working a chic rocker look with kohled out eyes and messy/manufactured hair. She's pictured in a Dolce & Gabbana Star-print goat hair and shearling coat....swoon!! We love a great Vogue India cover! {Via Vogue India Facebook}

Presenting the Dior / Anselm Reyle compact and nail varnishes

This weekend there was a very special delivery from Dior...a look at their new Anselm Reyle collaboration. Reyle is a German artist that is probably best known for his large and colourful abstract paintings. The artist was approached by Dior to design a line of handbags, shoes, jewellery and makeup and the result is simply stunning. Reyle chose his iconic camouflage pattern for the line and splashed out with bright and vibrant colours. The accessories are incredible but the makeup and nail varnish collection is simple stunning. The camo compact is almost too beautiful to use! However, the nail varnishes are already being put to the test. These colours are perfect for transitioning seasons. Here's your first look at both the compact and the great polish colours...

Elizabeth Olsen covers ASOS March 2012

ASOS just gave us a sneak peek this morning at their March 2012 cover featuring the beautiful Elizbeth Olsen. We were so pleased to see Olsen wearing one of our favourite pieces for Spring, an MiH jeans jacket, for the cover this month.  Here's a little preview of what is revealed in her interview with the magazine...

On her favourite food:
Brussels sprouts – “I am obsessed with them.”

Past Sundance favorite films:
“I loved An Education, or even Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary.  Those were movies that helped give an actor leeway into the world.”

On her upbringing:
“I did lead a very charmed life growing up, but I was aware of the things that were abnormal.  The only time I flew first-class as a kid was when my sisters did these cruises called ‘Sail With The Stars.’  They were the main event...other than that, never.”

On her famous last name:
“A lot of casting directors didn’t make the connection at first.  I loved it when that would happen, because there was no baggage of any kind, whether it was good or bad...I’ve always wanted to feel like everything I did, I worked hard for, because I had a complex about it.”

Most surreal career moment so far:
Meeting her idol Woody Allen.
“I have a vintage Annie Hall movie poster than an ex-boyfriend bought me in high school, the only movie poster I own.”

On her famous family:
“Mary-Kate and Ashley have celebrated my birthday with me every year since I’ve been in New York, my last four birthdays, and it’s been so special.  Or when you have a fight with a boyfriend or a friend, or whatever, they’re here.”

On being the Elizabeth in her sisters’ clothing line Elizabeth & James:
“In my mind, that was, ‘Oh cool, that means I get free clothes!’  For two years, I didn’t buy anything.  But even as a little kid...I had all their hand-me-downs.”

On her style:
Inspired by Celine, Chanel, Isabel Marant and Marni – “I thought it was masculine and quirky and funky.”
