Love for Le Labo’s Santal 33

I just spent more money on myself than I have spent in a while. It all started at Cafe Luc. In fact, I’m going to point my finger at them and say, ” I love you but I hate you.” I love them for introducing me to a fragrance my life is now incomplete without but I hate them for introducing me to a fragrance that is so dear I may have to find weekend employment at McDonalds to cover the expense. However, we all know that many great things come at a cost.  So let’s get to the point then, shall we? I’m speaking about Le Labo and their newest scent Santal 33.  Two weeks ago I was given a sample of the scent at Cafe Luc while I was there for a press dinner. Our hostess for the evening was wearing the intoxicating fragrance and I kept meaning to ask her what it was but never found the appropriate moment. Thank goodness I didn’t have to in the end as the little vile of perfection was waiting for me as I took my seat for our first course.

I then did my research and found the scent online. It is pricey – £38 for 0.5oz or £90 for 1.7oz – but it’s a scent that goes a long way. One or two sprays gets you through the day, as I’ve recently been advised.  My dream to buy this fragrance became a necessity when I read the description of Santal 33 that was online: “Do you remember the old Marlboro ads? A man and his horse in front of the fire on a great plain under tall, blue evening skies – A defining image of the spirit of the American West.” Does this sound perfect for the Ralph Lauren lover in me or what?

So I bit the bullet, took out the American Express and ordered a 0.5oz bottle. The process was quick and painless and when the package arrived yesterday I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Le Labo had placed my name on all of the packaging! “Emily Johnston” (yes, the fashion goose does have a proper name), is written on the box and the bottle. So there’s no mistaking that this fragrance is mine, all mine!

Of course I’d like to think this is now my signature fragrance but when I find a good thing I can’t help but share. So if you’re looking for a new scent, consider popping into Le Labo or trying one of their trial packages online to find your perfect fragrance. They have stores all over the world, and in London they are located in Liberty department store.
