If you do one thing today, fashion followers, watch this advert. Clothes are part of our everyday lives from start to finish. The creative agency, Adam & Eve, mapped this out clearly in the new advert for John Lewis. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. The music and cinematography were out of this world amazing. The ad features a re-recorded version of Billy Joel's "She's Always a Woman", sung by the Guillemots.Thank you for giving us a moving piece of cinema on a Friday afternoon.
Just seen the ad, and googled "john lewis ad" and came here. Stunning ad, and as I am now 54, it brought a lump to my throat.
ReplyDeleteclever ad but will it sell clothes etc?
ReplyDeleteBrought tears to my eyes. Could easily place where I am in the montage - mother with young kids - shows how quickly life moves. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteGreat advert
ReplyDeleteagree with above
If all ads could be so watchable
well done

What? Did you actually listen to the words of the song, or are you all just humming along. Phrases such as "She steals like a theif", "She'll take what you give her as long as it's free" and others are derogatory and show u s where Billy was at when he wrote those lyrics, about Elizabeth Small.
ReplyDelete"Billy no longer plays this in concert. On one of his college tour shows, Billy said that it was about his first wife, who he didn't really want to be singing about in the first place. He also said that while he was singing it, he would start thinking about what meal he would eat after the show. No passion whatsoever, so he dropped it."
Jesus.
I saw Billy Joel last year and he played/sang this song beautifully. It was one of the highlights of the night and is a great choice for this fantastic TV ad.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Adan & Eve, great work.
I like this ad, as it acknowledges that without women shopping from everything from pots & pans, to vacumes and clothes John Lewis would not exist.
ReplyDeletethe gillemots version of the song is heart wrenchingly soulful.
