There is no way that you can't recognize this gorgeous face. Elaine Irwin Mellancamp has been on the modeling scene since 1985 when she left home at the age of 16 to start up a career in professional modeling. She has appeared on several dozen covers of fashion magazines around the globe, has sat for some of the world's most prestigious photographers and even appeared on the cover of record album (which incidentally is how she met her husband John Cougar Mellancamp). She is one of the most beautiful women in modeling and has certainly earned her status as a supermodel.
It was a shock to open this month's Vogue UK and find Elaine staring back at me from a Marina Rinaldi advert. Anyone familiar with the plus size clothing industry will know that Marina Rinaldi is top of the charts when it comes to this arena in clothing. It's the haute couture of plus size really. So I have to ask this question: Is Elaine's comp card, stating that she is a size six, still true? And if this is the case why is she modeling for a company that advertises clothing for sizes 12-26? I love the ad, she looks amazing and I suppose that really is all that matters. But from a branding perspective it would be nice to see an actual size 12 modeling the clothing for the company as really you are ultimately looking to attract the clientele that will wear the clothes, not just love the picture.
